Movie Haiku:First-person narrator triumphs over horrific childhood dominated by soul-grinding poverty & provincial hypocrisy. Unable to cope, both parents implode, leaving their children to make do. It this weren’t a true story, it would be too hard to bear. But it is true, and therefore a testament to human resilience.
